News of a definitive book, 9CD box-set and potentially new material from Roky Erikson and The 13th Floor Elevators has reached our shores.Eye_mind

First up is Eye Mind: Roky Erikson and The 13th Floor Elevators by Paul Drummond. It charts the history of the first American psychedelic band whose tales of drug excess, strange live shows and quasi-religious ideals have never been fully told before. Over the eleven years it took to research and write Eye Mind, Drummond sought out and interviewed all the surviving original members of the legendary Texan band and gives them scope to tell their own version of events during those four years at the end of the 1960s when the band formed, soared and burned out.

In September a 9CD boxset entitled
All and Everything is mooted for release. During Drummond’s research he was able to unearth a cache of tapes, some from band producer Walt Andrus and others from band
members and friends. As well as their studio albums, it will feature the bands
unreleased first LP, previously unheard live material, alternative
stereo mixes and outtakes. It will crucially also include Stacy
Sutherland’s unreleased solo album, Beauty & the Beast.

And if that wasn’t enough great news for fans, Erickson
is currently working on a new solo album in
collaboration with Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top. We will have to wait and see what comes of that…

Eye Mind is published by Process and is available from Amazon here. The boxset All And Everything will be released in September on Charly Records.
