A stunning piece of small-scale 1960s architecture is currently for sale – this Laurie Abbott-designed house in Frimley, Surrey.

Built in 1966 as part of a small development of similar properties, it was designed by Abbott, who until his recently was a senior director at the Richard Rogers Partnership, instrumental in the creation of the Pompidou Centre and Lloyd's of London. Some pedigree for a house designer.

Sadly, the stunning exterior doesn't quite match up on the inside, the current owners having 'sympathetically maintained and updated' the house, but judging by the internal shots, a lot of that 60s character seems to be missing. Sure you'll be able to put it back easily enough though.

In terms of specifics, there's a reception and utility on the ground floor, a kitchen and breakfast room plus bathroom on the first, then three bedrooms on the second floor. Outside is a courtyard, communal gardens and a single garage. Price? A reasonable-sounding £265,000. Well, reasonable in terms of Surrey house prices anyway.

  1. I lived very close to this house and walked past it when I was visiting last summer. I always liked the look of it.
Now living in Canada, I am amazed at the price that is at least double what you would pay for a similar property in Ontario within a 70 mile radius of Toronto.
Homes in the States are even cheaper, as long as you don’t want to live in the centre of a city.

  2. I am someone else who grew up nearby to these flats! I remember always liking them as a kid when being driven past them in my Mums car. When I got older I always said that if these flats were in London I’d buy one – cos Frimley, Surrey is a bit of a dead backwater – it was then – and it still is – thats why I moved away!
