BGP Records 21st anniversary

by Modculture 2 September, 2008

Everyone celebrates their 21st – and top soul/funk label BGP is no exception, throwing a party and bringing out a celebratory album.

The album is the work of Andy Smith, who has trawled through the label’s archives for his favourite soul, funk and jazz grooves, producing a mix album that’s likely to be the perfect introduction to the label’s fine output. It’s called DJ Andy Smith Diggin’ The BGP Vaults and it’s out this month.

To celebrate that and the label, there’s a launch night you really don’t want to miss. Taking place this Friday (5th September), you need to head down to Cargo, 83 Rivington Street, London EC2A 3AY, where you can catch the Killer Meters live, with DJ support from DJ Derek, Andy Smith, Dean Rudland and Yann. Admission is £10 in advance (free before 9pm and £12 after), with the night running from 8pm until 3am. A free 45 will be given away, limited to 500 and featuring the funk / breaks classic ‘Soul Brothers Testify’ by Chester Randle and 87th Over Broadway’s ‘Can’t Get Enough’ (previously only released on the CD only Golden State Funk).
