Brighton Beach launches in London

by Modculture 8 August, 2006

Long established in the north of England, leading mod/60s night Brighton Beach is launching as a monthly night at the Carling Academy Islington, London, starting on Friday 15th September and then on the third Friday of each month.

The night will feature two rooms of 60s club sounds, soulshakers, garage fuzz, speed fuelled psych & freakbeat, retro indie, rock’n’roll and classic Britpop. Resident DJs Tinna & Rob will be taking care of the dancefloor action in Room 1, while Brighton Beach legend Gav Needham, alongside special guest DJs Jack White and Mark Ellis will look after things in Room 2. The second room will feature  different guests from the Mod scene each month.

The night will also feature psychedelic lighting, 35mm slide projections, cult 1960’s films and a live band every month, the first of which are Leeds band The Pigeon Detectives. The band have so far released just two limited edition singles, both of which were given a Single of the Week accolade by Steve Lamacq on his BBC Radio 6 show.
