One cheaper alternative is the online John Smedley Outlet, which has a lot of stock constantly turning over. It’s a site worth keeping an eye on. But if nothing comes up there, you could opt for these more affordable knits at Uniqlo.

These are three-button polo shirts of the long-sleeve variety in four shades. It’s not a new design, but they only tend to be available in Uniqlo for a limited amount of time. They sell through quickly and for good reason.

They look the part and there is a good range of sizes available (from XXS through to 3XL). They are also constructed from a premium 19.5-micron merino wool with a special finishing process that prevents ‘pilling’ of the shirt.

With all of that in mind, £34.90 each seems like a reasonable price. But as I said, they do tend to sell out fairly quickly.
