Is there any video footage of the original Mods online?

Yes there is, but not much of it. At least, not in terms of quality.

One of the best finds of recent years is the early footage of The Who, taken at the infamous Railway Hotel, it focuses as much on the crowd as it does on the band, making it one of the best archive pieces around. You can view that here.

YouTube will probably throw up various other snippets too – there’s plenty of Pathe newsreels about the Mods and Rockers beach fights, if that’s of interest to you.

If you really want to get beneath the surface, there’s some great footage of the original 60s Mods now online at the BBC, originally recorded for the Panorama programme. The whole piece last 7 minutes (just 60 seconds removed for legal reasons). Check it out at the BBC website.
