We stuck the teaser image for this on our Facebook site recently and the reaction was what you might describe as ‘polarised’. Now the full Fred Perry x Twisted Wheel collection has been revealed and we suspect the reaction will be largely similar.

It is described as a ‘northern soul inspired range’, mixing classic Fred Perry shapes with ‘patches’ representing the club, Fred Perry, allnighters and so on.That includes everything from the polo shirt, short-sleeved shirt and harrington, through to accessories including bags, shoes and Tootal-style scarves. There’s even a set of pin badges (which for our money are the pick of the collection).

There should be a women’s collection too (some of which is pictured below), but so far, we can’t see any sign of it at the online store. Maybe that’s to follow?

As we said, it’s quite a polarising collection. Some people might argue that northern soul is a big jump from that what is mod, others might find the collection a but too ‘in your face’ with its imagery (people should draw the dots themselves). But judging by the overall reaction to that teaser, a good number of people liked what Fred Perry has done with the iconic Manchester club – so there’s likely to be a market for it.

It’s quite a turnaround for the Twisted Wheel too, which has always been an undervalued part of mod and soul scene heritage (although Manchester’s Hideaway Club did used to regularly pay tribute to Roger Eagle and the original Brazennose Street venue with annual nights). Ironically, that turnaround came too late for the last incarnation of the club, which was knocked down earlier this year. So much for heritage.

Anyway, the clothing is available to buy now at the Fred Perry site – see those listings for prices. Many images below.
