Remember this one? It was on the big screen a couple of months back and now My Generation is available to order on DVD or Blu-ray.
As you might recall (especially if you attended one of the screenings), My Generation is a documentary focusing on the ‘swinging sixties’ directed by David Batty and written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais.
It also features Michael Caine as co-producer and narrator of a doc described as ‘a perceptive and entertaining journey through the Swinging Sixties and the societal upheaval that still resonates today in the UK and around the world’.
The story of the era is told with film clips, archive footage and music, with contributions from the likes of Paul McCartney, Roger Daltrey, Mary Quant, Marianne Faithfull, David Bailey, Twiggy and many others movers and shakers of the day. Well, those left to tell the story.
Clips used were sourced from over 1,600 hours of material, including the work of seminal 1960s filmmaker Peter Whitehead, whose work includes unseen footage of Michael Caine, Mick Jagger, Julie Christie, The Rolling Stones and many others. All of that took about five years to compile, so you can see why this is being seen as the definitive film of the era.
If you missed those cinema screenings or want to see it again, My Generation is being released on DVD, Blu-ray and a special edition two-disc set which is pictured above.
I’m not 100 per cent sure what you get with the special edition, but included is a Blu-ray, a DVD and a digital download version, as well as what looks like some postcards ands possibly a book too.
If that’s a bit much, a single Blu-ray and single DVD are also available to pre-order now ahead of the 28th May release date. Prices are £9.99, £14.99 and £22 respectively for the three formats.
