I know a few of you went to see this at the BFI when it was part of the Flipside presentation there. But what you might now know is that Some People is getting a DVD release via Network.

Not so much swinging London as swinging Bristol. Actually, it’s pre-swinging anything (in 1962), but you get the idea. Starring  Ray Brooks, Annika (Anneke) Wills and David Hemmings (plus ‘oldie’ Kenneth More), it’s the old coming of age / teen rebellion theme, with Johnnie, Bill and Bert being teenaged tearaways whose only interests are bikes and music.

When they are banned from riding and fined heavily, they become convinced that society has no use for them. But a young organist finds them playing rock on a church organ and, for one of them at least, there seems to be a way out of a no-hope situation.

The movie is directed by Clive Donner (later behind Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush), with this version being a brand-new transfer from original film elements in its ‘as-exhibited theatrical aspect ratio’. It also features the original theatrical trailer, an image gallery and a press book PDF.

See the opening scene here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1mtGgIfWX8 (the DVD will be much better quality), with the film out on 20th March, selling for £7.25.
