New band: The Charlie Parkers

London rockers The Charlie Parkers have spent the last couple of years writing tunes for stadiums but playing them in small venues. 2008 could be the year when all that changes as they get set to release their debut EP in the spring. The_cps_2

Taking their cue from late ’60s Beatles/Faces/Who and the power pop heard in the mid 70s and again during the Britpop era, they have an extremely powerful and talented songwriting duo in Tony Barker and James Wakefield. Mixing retro sounding guitars with the unique sound of the Fender Rhodes, topped off with harmonised duel vocals, The Charlie Parkers certainly stand out from the crop of current bands doing the rounds. This has earnt them quite a live following which has helped them play some prestigious support slots last year.

Having spent the last few months writing and recording the aforementioned EP, the band hit the live stage again this month, starting this Saturday the 9th at The George Tavern in Whitechapel (onstage at 9.45pm). If you want a chance to hear the new material at maximum volume then there’s no better place to start.
