If you like the idea of a book full of images of the Rolling Stones in the band’s formative years, then you need a copy of Breaking Stones: 1963-1965 A Band on the Brink of Superstardom.

QA 240-page hardback from ACC Editions, the book is said to capture ‘the youth, the times and the spirit of The Stones’ formative early years’.

Two photographers were out there taking snaps of the band – Terry O’Neill and  Gered Mankowitz, aged 25 and 19 respectively. Their images are the best record of the band just before the big time and as success came. Classic shots, rare and unseen photos, contact sheets – all here.

In addition to the photos, the book offers up various memories and interviews, essentially an insight into what it must have felt like to go from a small club in Soho with no record deal to touring the world a few years later with a number one record. Also original articles from the Record Mirror (1963), Evening Standard (1964) and Detroit Free Press (1965), plus quotes from quotes from Andrew Loog Oldman, Norman Jopling, Charlie Watts, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Bill Wyman.

Sounds a winner. If it does to you, the book is available to order now for £20.37 ahead of the 11th April publication date.

Sadly we haven’t been able to get clearance to publish images from the book. However, if you visit the Proud Galleries site there are more images there. More on the Amazon listing too.
