My Vintage Summer by J. Elmor

by Modculture 2 June, 2008

At this time of year the newspapers and magazines are full of ‘summer reading recommendations’. Modculture here temporarily jumps on this bandwagon and suggests you may wish to check out My Vintage Summer.Mvs

The debut novel by Londoner Jane Elmor, the book draws on her past life (including stints in rock bands and dealing in vintage clothes) to spin a tale of three young girls growing up in the early 1980s with a love for music of the ’60s as well as the contemporary Two Tone and neo-rockabilly movements. There are plenty of talk of bands and songs that we know, and with it being set in the 80s it gives a nice new twist to all those 60s-set books that trade on ‘Summer of Love’ nostalgia. Whether ‘My Vintage Summer’ is actually any cop is not for us to say, but for you to find out.

My Vintage Summer is out on Friday (June 6th), published by Pan Books and available from Amazon here. There is a Myspace page for the book too, which can be found here.
