Not strictly a mod event, but there is plenty a Vintage Glasgow that’s likely to appeal to a mod audience. It takes place over 27th and 28th July 2013.

The event is down as ‘celebrating 7 decades of British cool: the music, dance, fashion, food, art, design and film from the 1920s to the 1980s’ over two days and nights, at the Old Fruitmarket in the city.

Over 13 hours each day, you can dance, take part in workshops, take in live performances, enjoy evade specific make-overs, sample vintage food and cocktails and shop at one of Scotland’s most exciting vintage marketplaces.

Key events from a mod point of view include the Vintage Sunday Social with Friday Street’s Paul Molly and Mikey Collins, joined by Eddie Piller, Simon Hodge and Mark Robb for boogaloo, lateen, mod classics, northern, ska and freakbeat. Alongside that is the Soul Casino Club with Eddie Piller and guests for northern soul sounds, plus Let It Rock for some 50s-style rhythm and blues.

All those other events too, with ticket prices based on which parts you wish to attend.

If you remember the Hideaway Club, you’ll remember Paul Welsby, one of the the club’s resident DJs and promoters. He’s back with a new night in Manchester next month, called the Nu Beat Club.

This isn’t Hideaway part two, this is an all-new night, with Paul DJing alongside Sugar Merchant for a mod-friendly mix of the best original 1960s ska, rocksteady, reggae and soul. Sugar was one of the most popular guests at The Hideaway Club with his ska spots so the mix of the two DJs and sounds should be just the ticket.

It takes place at a very familiar venue too, The Waldorf, Gore Street, City Centre Manchester M1 3AQ. It runs from 9pm to 2am with entry £4 members / £5 non-members. The opening night is Saturday 30th March 2013 and then it takes place on the last Saturday of every other month for the remainder of the year (25 May, 27 July, 28 September and 30 November).

If you want to know more, see thenubeatclub.co.uk and a Facebook page The Nu Beat Club. A much needed monthly event for Manchester.
