A sign of how far The Strypes have come in a short period of time, that’s for sure – a BBC4 documentary screening featuring the band.

Simply called The Strypes, this is a Julien Temple film about the band and their old school R&B sound. According to the write-up, the film ‘explores the band’s evolution from toddlerhood, when they first began playing together, through the hard work and twists of fate that have catapulted them straight out of their small rural hometown to screaming crowds.’

It adds: ‘Going on the same musical coming-of-age quest as their early heroes, the Beatles, Stones and Kinks, they searched out the origins of R&B and the wellspring of the blues to produce their own distinctive, hard-edged sound.’

‘A deeply human story of four young childhood friends, with a profoundly shared passion and goal, as they become adults in the world of 21st-century rock ‘n’ roll success.’

The date is Friday 13th March at 11pm on BBC4, with a repeat in the early hours of the day after.
