Apologies to the band, with so much on, a few reviews have fallen throguh the cracks. This being one of them. But you shouldn’t let the new single by The Urges pass you buy.

We’ve not heard anything from the Dublin band since Psych Ward, an album we rated pretty highly on this site. We’re talking up this single too, not least because it offers up an authentic ’60s garage sound, along with some good ol’ fashioned energy. Fire Burning is also a catchy little number too with quite a big sound, you can’t beat a bit of brass to add some extra ‘oomph’ to a tune.

On the flipside is the more downbeat, but equally good I’ve Been Here Before, which is more on the psych-y side and could again have come straight out of the original era. That’s the secret – get that production right.

Best of all, you can pick up the tracks on either CD or on lovely (and it is lovely)100 gram heavyweight 7-inch vinyl). If your tastes hover around the latter part of the 1960s, this is a no-brainer purchase.
