Willie Mitchell tribute/obituary

Mitchell

Musician, arranger and of course, producer – soul legend Willie Mitchell passed away this week, but left a legacy of great tunes behind.

We could write a tribute, but the Caught By The River site has already done it, so let us redirect you to that particular page for the lowdown. He'll be sorely missed.

Last night I saw Al Green in his first live performance in Australia, a free concert in the The Domain park as part of the Sydney Festival.

Al was in fine vocal form and sang a great many of the favourites (Lets Stay Together, How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, Take Me To The River etc.) that the enormous crowd came for, dancing in the summer night heat. To learn this morning that his long-time producer and co-writer had died earlier this week makes the concert memory more poignant.
