Wrong Box in Blackpool

by Modculture 21 February, 2006

Apart from the occasional outings for the Hideaway club there (are they still happening?), "mod" and "Blackpool" rarely share the same sentence. Unless The Wrong Box is on.

The Wrong Box 60s Club is a bi-annual event held at the West Coast Rock Cafe on Abingdon St in Blackpool on Saturday 8th April. Music (strictly on vinyl) is spun by Wrong Box DJs Crazy Larry Shem and Rolly (Ralston Ferguson), playing mod pop, soul, ska, freakbeat, jazz & psych.

To celebrate the Wrong Box’s anniversary, the lads are joined by guest band Get Carter from Lancaster, who describe their sound as "recreating the smokey Hammond jazz of Soho and Swinging London"

Admission for this event is a criminally cheap £3 and the night runs from 9:30pm until late. If you want more info on the night, staying over etc, contact Larry Senior on 07719 984553 or email him at [email protected].

The Wrong Box atmosphere has always been well on the way to creating that feeling of warmth when everyone knows they’re there for the same thing; to enjoy the music and dance.Styles of music covered are as broad as possible and include a fair share of unknown 45’s to underrated ‘b’ sides.
If you like any part of the 60’s The Wrong Box is for you whether you participate or not………..
Go on, you know you want to.PP
