The website has been around selling cosmetics for some time. But now Mary Quant fashion classics are available to buy – and some are in the sale.
It’s a great and well-overdue move by the company. Original Mary Quant items sell for serious one these days (I know because we have picked some up in the past), so to see some iconic 1960s pieces returning to the shelves as new items is something to appreciate.
No, they don’t always come cheap. But at the same time, they don’t command the same prices as vintage items either. And as I said, some are in the sale too. And it isn’t just about statement dresses – you can get more affordable pieces in the range as well.
So, with that in mind, I have picked out 10 of the best designs (in my eyes) that are currently being offered for sale online. It’s an ever-growing range, so new items will likely appear as we move through 2024. But it’s a good place to start. Oh yes, there seems to be 10 per cent off if you sign up for the label’s newsletter, too.
1. 1960s Six Petal Daisy Bag
Let’s start with a classic of the era and a bag that still catches the eye as much today as it did half a century and more ago.
A simple monochrome bag with the Mary Quant logo/symbol at its heart. This is the 1960s in bag form. It has the original six petal daisy design on one side and the classic five petal Mary Quant daisy on the other, with a ring-shaped zip pull embossed with Mary Quant and a removable shoulder strap that’s adjustable to five different lengths if you decide to keep it on.
This reworked classic sells for £95.
2. 1960s Mary Quant Logo T-Shirt
Don’t worry if the yellow is a bit ‘much’ as this T-shirt comes in a more modest black finish, too.
Pretty much self-explanatory – a limited edition t-shirt produced using an archive Mary Quant Logo from the sixties, with the yellow inspired by the iconic yellow tin of the Mary Quant crayons. But note that it’s described as an oversized fit, so check the size chart before you order.
£33 for one of these.
3. Black Canvas Tote Bag
At the more affordable end of the spectrum is this totes bag. Appealing, though, nonetheless.
Actually, there are two bags, with both of the designs pictured above, available to purchase – the classic Mary Quant logo or the daisy lattice design.
£16 also puts it firmly into the ‘gift’ category too.
4. 1960s Poncho Coat
Again, don’t get hung up on the colour – there are brighter finishes available. However, even the back version stands out in the street.
That’s down to the design, which is a reproduction of a classic which has been tweaked for the winter weather. There’s now a quilted padded lining to keep you ‘extra warm’.
Pick one up in black, peacock blue or a houndstooth finish, each with a reproduction of a vintage Mary Quant label, button detail and room for your arms (ideally in gloves at this time of the year).
£209 gets you one of these.
5. Belted Pinafore Dress
I’m not sure if this is an original design from the 1960s or not. But it works for a 1960s look, whether it is or not. Oh yes, in the sale, too.
Available in two colour options, the dress is lined, has pockets, and comes with a removable belt in a contrasting colour.
The colours are camel (seen here) and cool navy. Functional, good-looking and now reduced from £129 down to £90.30.
6. Jacquard Daisy Coloured Tights
We still have some originals of these, which we bought off eBay many moons ago. Probably paid more than this, too.
You can get colourful retro tights from Mod Shoes if you want cheaper. But if you want Mary Quant’s iconic 1960s colour tights in a retro reusable pouch, complete with a daisy logo, well, here they are.
Plenty of colours available and priced at £28.
7. 1960s Logo Pullover
Another design that’s currently in the sale.
It’s a high-necked pullover featuring a Mary Quant Logo from the 1960s embroidered on the front and with a reproduction of a vintage Mary Quant label. The sleeves flare out, the neck is high, and the colours are black, beige or blue.
Originally £80, it is now down to £56.
8. Mary Quant’s OBE Dress
This is a great reissue. A 1960s classic in a light or a dark shade.
As the title says, this dress is a reproduction of the one Mary Quant wore when she was awarded her OBE in 1966. And if that’s not a selling point, then I really don’t know what is.
Made of a ‘sturdy’ jersey material, it has a lined skirt, contrasting stitching and a collar that can be worn zipped up or down. The label is also a reproduction of a vintage Mary Quant label and the ring-shaped zip pull is embossed with Mary Quant.
£125 gets you one.
9. 1960s Two-Way Clasp Mouth Shoulder Bag
Another bag with a daisy feature on it. But very different from the one up the list.
A shoulder bag described as being ‘inspired by Mary’s 1960s designs’, it features a six petal daisy on one side and the classic five petal daisy on the reverse. The chain strap and buckle shoulder strap are both removable, and the shoulder strap is adjustable to five different lengths.
£72 is the price.
10. Square Frame Ring
Plenty of jewellery in the range, with this ring having the advantage of being both cute and a bit cheaper in the sale.
It is what it is – a resin Mary Quant daisy surrounded by a square frame and available in silver and gold.
Originally £22, it is now down to £15.40.
