I featured these in suede a while back, but the 1960s Adidas Tokyo trainers in white leather take things to the next level.
Why? Well just take a look. It is the back end of February and suede isn’t ideal for the wet weather. Leather is far more suited. And of course, they just look amazing. White leather with some contrasting detail. It’s always a winner. Just look at that past Adidas London reissue or the Adidas Japan of a few weeks back to see that.
Talking of Japan, this one is kind of related to that design. The Japan was launched at the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo as a leisure shoe, and the Adidas Tokyo was designed as a track and field shoe for the same Olympic Games. But it has been repurposed as more of a leisure shoe subsequently.
A hunt around the net will show the design with spikes from the track days but with a design not a million miles away from the one you see here.
It’s a slim and stylish ‘low profile’ shoe in what’s described as an off-white leather with contrasting collegiate green details.
Those details are the stripes, the trim, and the cross at the back. Note also the side around the toe and the lace box. A slim gum sole and gold foil branding finish things off.
Just a good-looking shoe and although I’ve tried to avoid posting up more Adidas, the label’s current obsession with the 1960s just forced my hand. All sizes are available right now, with a price of £85.
