Another one from half a century (and more) returns. This time the 1960s Adidas Tokyo trainers in three colour options.

Adidas seems to have something of a 1960s thing going on. I’ve mentioned the returning 1960s Adidas Japan trainers recently, as well as the Adidas Samba 62, which is an early 1960s take on a classic Adidas all-rounder. Now the Tokyo is back.

The shoe was originally designed as a track and field shoe for the 1964 Olympic Games – if you hunt around the internet you’ll see worn out versions with running spikes on them. Thankfully, for more leisurely use, there are no spikes on the latest version of the Tokyo – just a very smooth gum sole.

However, it maintains the slim profile, the distinctive look, and, of course, the ‘cross’ design on the back of the shoe.

There’s a suede upper, with a choice of white, black or blue for the colours, all with contrasting details. The gold branding is there, the slightly overlapping gum sole, plus the old-school branding on the tongue and inside. Your classic Adidas reissue.

Availability varies from colour to colour, but Hip Store has all three in stock and with most sizes catered for. So, it’s probably the first place to check.
