If you are a fan of his early output, then the 1960s David Bowie Deram album deluxe edition vinyl might be for you.
But getting the right one might be complicated, as there are three versions to choose from – and older versions, too, if you want to dig about. But let’s focus on the new releases of Bowie’s 1967 debut album on the Deram label.
To be honest, I have reviewed this album in the past, when it was issued as an extensive 53-track box set. Do check that out if you want an idea of what this is about. Let’s just say it’s no Ziggy Stardust, but it is a collection of interesting 1960s beat and pop. Some of which have aged better than other parts.
It’s a cult item, and I have always had a soft spot for it. The difference here is the format. There are two vinyl issues, one in green and one in a ‘cloudy green’ that is only available from independent retailers. Unless you happen to be a completist, you’ll have to choose where you want to buy.
Both are over two discs, which means bonus tracks on top of the original running order. And there is a two-disc CD set with even more tracks (but not as many as the previous CD set). I’ve stuck the track listings below if you want to compare. Annoyingly, there is a different extra track on each vinyl issue, but not one you would want to buy an extra copy for.
The fact that these are double vinyl sets pushes the price up, with both selling for around £40 each. As ever, CD is cheaper, with a 2x CD set coming in at £12.99. The release date is 26th July 2024, and pre-orders are open now.
