Some 1960s-style penny loafers by Dr Watson Shoemaker on the shelves. Not cheap, but the quality is top notch as always.
If you don’t know about Dr Watson Shoemaker, you probably need to check out my interview with Ivan, the man behind the company. But if you haven’t got five minutes to spare, let’s just say we are talking about a label that specialises in limited edition footwear based on classic 1960s styles and handmade with the finest quality materials. But do check out that interview if you can.
Anyway, plenty of styles out there, but the latest footwear produced by Dr Watson Shoemaker are the penny loafers you see here.
What can you say? The designs are based on footwear you would see worn by the original mods of the 1960s, although I suspect not to the quality you see on this ‘reissue’.
Handmade as ever, the shoes feature a soft cream suede and tan leather, along with a stitched leather sole. Attention to detail second to none.
There are two variations you can choose from, both of which are featured here. Neither comes cheap, as I said above, priced at £153.78 plus the shipping. Mind you, when a pair of standard trainers start to push £100 it doesn’t seem like such a step up when you consider the quality and work here.
