A new design, a great idea and also a lovely Mod shoe, courtesy of the 1960s-style Retro footwear by Dr Watson Shoemaker.

It’s actually the latest instalment in a new series by Dr Watson Shoemaker, which departs from the more formal look of his footwear, going for a more casual style. You might also want to check out the soccer range too from the same maker.

After all, casual footwear often gets overlooked. It’s easy to go and pick up one of the latest Adidas reissues and yes, the Adidas Cadet does look really smart. But Adidas is everywhere and something like this isn’t. Even if it does cost a little more.

So let’s focus on the Retro style as an alternative. This is a handmade shoe (as you would expect) and designed to look like a vintage sports shoe. Both the upper and the sole should tell you that.

But this isn’t a sports shoe. It’s also a smart piece of footwear, with a leather upper matched up with the rubber sole. Love the contrasting detail on this one, as well as the zig-zag edging. It’s a shoe that could be out of the 1960s, which is a testament to the man behind it. If you want to know about him, I have done an interview with Dr Watson Shoemaker (aka Ivan) which is well worth a few minutes of your time.

As I said, a bit pricier than your average Adidas, but that’s handmade shoes for you. The Retro footwear will set you back just under €140.
