Noonday Underground meets Mod

by Modculture 22 December, 2006

Interesting video from Noonday Underground, going back to 2001. It was for the track London from their excellent Self Assembly album (which is probably reviewed on here, there’s certainly an interview with Simon Dine online).

Anyway, the video was shot at London’s Lordy Lord club in 2001. If you used to go, you might be on – or least know some of the random people featured. Enjoy…

Rhoda Dakar at The Gladstone

by Modculture 17 December, 2006

Rhoda Dakar will be playing out and about in London again – and again for free – at the Gladstone Xmas Party on Friday 22nd December, kicking off at 7pm.

Rhoda Dakar sprung to fame in the late 80s as lead singer with Ska all girl group The Bodysnatchers. She joined the Specials AKA in 1983 and co-wrote free Nelson Mandela with Jerry Dammers. The Gladstone show is an acoustic set, mixing two tone tunes with newer material. For this special Christmas outing, she will also be joined by good friend Jennie Matthias, former vocalist with the Bellestars and Big 5.

The Gladstone, 64 Lant Street, SE1 Borough, London
2 minutes from Borough tube station.

Spencer Davis Group in London

by Modculture 17 December, 2006

I’ve no idea who is actually in the Spencer Davis Group right now (well, Mr D is in and Stevie Winwood isn’t – that’s for sure), but if you want to catch them on a rare UK date, you can see the band at London’s 100 Club on Saturday 3rd February 2007.

Doors open at 7.30pm, with (unnamed) support playing from 8:30pm and the SDG taking ther stage from 10pm.

Tickets certainly aren’t cheap – £19.50 in advance. If you can stomach that, you can buy them online now.

YouTube: The Specials live

by Modculture 11 December, 2006

If you missed BBC4’s repeat of The Specials live on Rock Goes To College in 1980, don’t despair – most if it is on YouTube.

Check out the clip below for a section of it – featuring Concrete Jungle, Too Much Too Young and Guns Of Navarone. A search under "Rock Goes To College" will bring up the rest.
