As you might have guessed, this book is about the Northern Soul years of the Twisted Wheel Club at its Whitworth Street location. It is about how one little basement club, in Manchester, created a ‘worldwide music phenomenon’. It also attempts to follow the evolution of black music at the club from Blues through to R&B, Mod, Soul to Northern Soul.

Of course, if you want to know about the early years of the club you can check out the interview with Roger Eagle on this site. And note that this isn’t the first book that touches on the club. Central 1179: The Story of Manchester’s Twisted Wheel Club is the best part of 20 years old now and of course, the Roger Eagle biography is available too (and very cheap via the Kindle if you have one of those).

But this still looks like it’s an interesting read and I’ll be ordering one at some point. if you fancy it, the book is available to buy now, retailing for £15.
