Availability might dry up quickly, so make sure you grab a pair of the Adidas Athen trainers in black suede sooner rather than later.

I would guess that you know all about the Athen. It has been on the shelves in the relatively recent past. Just not in this finish.

The first recent reissue was back in 2016 when the shoe returned in blue suede with white stripes. The original colourway. It came back later in my favourite finish, the one in white leather. And finally, it appeared in an appealing forest green suede. So not exactly shy when it comes to a reissue. Although the last one was in the middle of 2017, so you’ve had to wait quite a while for a follow-up to that.

But the latest Athen is now here, which is a Size? exclusive in a new black suede finish. Black with yellow detailing to be more precise, which is a well-worn Adidas colour combination. Just not something you might have seen on the Athen.

Originally dating back to 1968, the Athen is typical of a City Series style with a gum sole, no-nonsense suede upper, serrated stripes and a contrast heel patch. Less is more, which is always the best thing when it comes to classic Adidas.

That’s about all there is to say really. A good-looking Adidas classic that looks impressive in this new suede colour combination. All the sizes are available as I speak, but don’t expect that to be the case forever. And it might be a while before another Athen comes along.

The price is £85 if you fancy them,
