Another gem from the past returns, courtesy of the wonderful Adidas Originals Samba 62 trainers.

I suspect these will fly out like the Adidas Japan trainers despite the price, which isn’t exactly budget. But this is a very rare reissue and pretty much guaranteed not to be seen for some time.

Adidas describes this as ‘a reshaped tribute to the early versions of the famed football silhouette’. In other words, a shoe based on the earliest models of the Samba.

Yes, you get the Samba pretty much anywhere, but it has changed over the years and this is more akin to the early models. The shoe was first seen in 1949 (possibly getting it name because of the Brazil World Cup not long after), but this is based around early 1960s version.

It’s a great-looking shoe, but it still retains touches that give a nod to its footballing past. The reissued version has a premium ‘Cloud White’ leather upper, a suede T-toe, and ‘calligraphic’ gold foil branding along with outsole cut-outs as well as herringbone treading to aid with grip on icy surfaces when playing a match.

An unusual but welcome reissue and as I said, unlikely to hang around for long. If you want a pair you’ll need to find £150.
