You might already own a version of this on CD. But Decca’s The Psychedelic Scene is being made available for the first time on vinyl.
Yes, another Decca reissue. There have been occasional reissues of these for Record Story Day, but it looks like the label is starting to work through them all for deluxe reissues. The Northern Soul Scene was recently followed by a new version of The R&B Scene, which has now been followed by this compilation.
If you don’t mind the later, more psychedelic 1960s, this might be one for you. Like all of these, it’s not necessarily about rarity. It’s about putting together a representative selection of the genre (albeit from the Decca archives). And with The Psychedelic Scene, the collection deliberately avoids the lighter, so-called ‘toytown pysch’ beloved of Decca’s off-shoot Deram for what’s described as ‘more substantial fodder’.
Or, as Decca describes it, ‘A Sonic Time Capsule to the Psychedelic Era’.
Which tracks make the cut? You can see the full listing below. This is a double album, made up of 25 tracks over the four sides. A CD version is also being made available once more, should you prefer that format.
Both should be released on 4th October 2024, although only the vinyl seems to be listed now; if you want that, you can pre-order from Amazon for £39.99.
