Spotted over at His Knibs, a classic wool harrington jacket by Beams Plus is now on the shelves and looking very smart.

Actually that should say ‘shelf’ as I can only find one retailer currently stocking it, although the new Beams Plus range is only just starting to make its way to retailers.

I know what you are thinking – ‘another’ harrington jacket. There are plenty out there. In fact, I did a buying guide for the harrington jacket a while back – and others have landed since. I featured a Fred Perry harrington in white just a couple of weeks back.

But this one has a label on its side. If you aren’t familiar, Beams Plus is a Japanese brand that remakes classic clothing, particularly ivy league clothing from the mid-20th century, adding its own subtle twist and always with quality as a selling point.

This is the first time it has done a harrington and looks like it has done a rather impressive job.

The difference here is the construction, with this one made of wood, described as being like a ‘tough cotton twill’ and guaranteed to keep you a touch warmer in the colder months. Elsewhere, it is all the classic details. So a cotton lining, button neck tab, dual-zip fastening, raglan sleeves, an inside chest pocket, two slash pockets with buttoned flaps plus ribbed cuffs and hem as well as an umbrella vent on the back.

The fit, like most Beams designs, is a touch on the small side and the price for this jacket, available only in khaki, is £302. That’s a little up on a Baracuta jacket.
