Actioncook

We featured this reissue last year, when it was selling for a (still discounted) £6.49. But now the Len Deighton Action Cook Book is just 99p.

But there's a catch. According to Neil, you'll have to head to your local Home Bargains discount shop to find it for that price. It's a national chain, with copies spotted as far apart as Leeds and London, but not every branch is selling it. In other words, if you're passing one, nip in and check if they have it – it's well worth that kind of money.

It's a 60s hipster's guide to cooking, ideal if you need to dice an onion, saute some mushrooms, create the perfect romantic meal, pull off a dinner party or build up your very own wine cellar. Yes, the creator of Harry Palmer has advice on all of that and more – for under a quid.

  1. Our Trombone player has an original copy of this. There’s a fine bit of info about cooking scrambled egg but I’m damned if I can remember what it is.
    There’s my tea ruined then!
