You might recall a Paul Weller single sleeve when you see the Mod 1 sunglasses by Retro Spectacle.
The glasses here haven’t been produced by one of the big makers. This is the work of Retro Spectacle, although it is based on the Debbex frame, which is a cult classic and a design favoured by Paul Weller in the 1980s and into the 1990s. Most famously, he was pictured wearing them on the cover of the equally classic Above The Clouds single.
With the original Debbex harder to find these days, a remake of the ‘look’ is welcome. It’s also Retro Spectacle’s first original design, hence the name Mod 1.
The selling point of the design is its simplicity. Polished silver metal creates a bold brow with ribbed detail. The angular lens shape around the nasal adds a punchy edge. In terms of practicality, the maker has fitted high-quality grey polarised lenses that not only provide 100% UV protection but also reduce glare. Alternatively, you can pick up a pair with brown lenses, too.
