Yes, another mod photo project, but Mod UK by Owen Harvey takes a slightly different tact than some others we have featured in the past.
Owen Harvey is a London based photographer and graduate of the University of Wales, Newport in 2013. He was also chosen as the Magnum Showcase winner by Bruce Gilden for his on going project on the current UK Mod scene, which is what you see here.
According to Owen, he had a few friends who were into the scene and who pointed him towards the New Untouchables nights in London. He took his camera along and snapped people at the club nights and events, examples of which you can see here.
That’s perhaps the difference between this and other recent collections. This one captures people out and about at clubs, as opposed to ‘staged’ shots during daytime. It seems to work.
The project is ongoing, so you might get ‘snapped’ yourself if you happen to be out and about in the London area. Check out some example of the project so far, with more (and more on the photographer) found here.
