Perfect as a personal treat or a stocking filler, the new issue of Detail magazine is now on the shelves.
I have a personal interest in this issue. I’ve been meaning to write something for Detail for a while but always found it hard to find the time. Thankfully, a window has opened up recently.
The cover star is actor Johnny Harris, who has chosen Detail for his first cover shoot. Tony Briggs did the shoot at Holborn Studios in the summer. Johnny is currently filming for the new version of Bladerunner.
My personal contribution is a look at ‘Mod horror’ – that short-lived craze for swinging sixties scary movies that actually dragged into the early ‘70s then promptly disappeared.
Beyond that, Paul Moody tells us why Starsky and Hutch was the coolest cop show. Graham Lentz looks at the legacy of sax player Gerry Mulligan and also speaks to the design director of modernist home retail trailblazers Habitat, which celebrated 60 years in 2024.
Chords drummer Brett ‘Buddy’ Ascott writes a personal tribute to the drummer of drummers – Keith Moon. Nick Keen goes in search of the soulful Santa and delves into James Brown’s festive recordings. David Collyer takes on the sartorial matter of scarves and why they matter. Steve Ellis talks about his style staples over the last 50 years in the music business, Peter Jachimiak waxes lyrical about the better late than never Boys Wonder debut album, and there’s a look at the roots of 60s jive talk with Cliff Greetham as well as the stunning artwork of Brazilian Mod and soul boy Tarsis Paseto.
I think that just about covers it. The latest issue is available to order now directly from the Detail website for £7 including UK delivery.
