A few years back you couldn’t move for mod compilations, but these days northern soul is more in vogue and as such, there are plenty of new collections out there. The latest two are Move On Up and Northern Soul Underground.
Move On Up is pretty much your northern ‘starter pack’. It’s on the UMTV label, which is likely to mean some TV advertising too, so look out for it on the box soon.
It claims to be the best of northern soul with a ‘few choice rarities’. Not sure there are any (if any) of the latter, bit the 75 tracks here certainly do the job as an introduction to northern. Likely to be a little too ‘obvious’ for long-timers though.
£9 for 75 tracks is good value though.

In contrast, Northern Soul Underground has more lesser-known tracks onboard. Not to say it’s a rarities set, which it isn’t. But if you are new to northern, there are a good few here you will not know and some decent early tracks too. Many of the tunes will be on YouTube if you want to hear a few un advance to get an idea.
Good value again though, 50 tracks for £4.99.
