I feel like I've been writing about a 'forthcoming northern soul movie' for almost as long as I've been writing this site. But have any actually made it to the big screen? Anyway, it looks like one is about to cross the great divide – the appropriately-named Northern Soul.
The work of photographer turned movie director (and northerner) Elaine Constantine, details are sparse right now, but according to the official website, the director 'grew up listening and dancing to Northern Soul', with the music 'the soundtrack to her adolescence'. The website also claims that 'some ten years in the making, it aims to be an authentic portrayal of a quintessential northern soul experience.'
