No, this isn't something from the archives of Olympus, this is a very modern piece of photographic kit – the Olympus E-P1 Micro Four Thirds camera.
What's that you ask? Well, it's a new type of camera, sitting somewhere between a compact camera and a pro-friendly digital SLR – offering the lightness and portability of the former and the high-end features of the latter. The result is something that offers top-notch images without adding weight to your bag, throwing in some retro style as a much-appreciated added bonus.
On the technical side, the EP-1 packs a 12.3 megapixel Live MOS sensor with TruePic V image processing, ISO 100-6400 sensitivity, a 3-inch LCD screen with live view, on-board image stabilisation, 20 shooting modes, 720p HD video recording (outputted via the on-board HDMI connector), an SDHC slot, art filters, Olympus' Supersonic Wave Filter to keep the dust out and DSLR-style interchangeable lenses.
It's set to hit the UK in July, with the E-P1 and 14-42mm zoom lens kit selling for £699 or £749 if you want 17mm pancake lens and viewfinder. There are also some cool retro accessories too, including a flash and the leather casing you can see above. All of which are destined to be must-haves over the summer months.
