A reissue of Ready Steady Girls – The Female Mods’ Forgotten Story is now available to order.
I’m a little bit behind the curve with this one (blame workloads elsewhere), but there’s still time to pre-order and time to get your name in the book’s acknowledgements. The deadline for that is December 14th, so basically, act before the end of this week.
You might already have a copy of the book. It was released as a limited edition and there’s a review here of the original book, which landed way back in 2016 and promptly sold out.
So why should you want it again? Well, you might have missed out the first time around. As I said, the book sold out eight years ago pretty quickly and changed hands for a premium afterwards. But you also might want another copy, as this is an updated book.
The premise is much the same. Ready Steady Girl collects the memories of those that were part of the ‘Modernist revolution’, and continue to be, from across the globe and spanning nearly sixty years. The latest edition has new interviews and hundreds of unseen photographs, and is described as a ‘must have for anyone interested in Modernism’ and a ‘unique opportunity to hear about it from the girls on the front line’.
Those new interviews have been carried out by Claire Mahoney of Detail magazine, with the book also featuring more unseen photos and artwork and some repackaging with a new cover and design.
As I hinted at earlier, the first 300 copies ordered will be numbered and signed by the authors, with the option of your name in the book too.
You can pre-order a copy here for £20.
Regular readers might recall I featured a box set of music accompanying the book’s release a while back. There’s No Stopping Us Now: The Female Mods’ Forgotten Story box set is also available to pre-order right now.
It’s described as a musical companion piece to Ready Steady Girls. This four-disc set features female artists who went on to become household names (including a surprising number who found fame as actors), some one-hit wonders, a few acts who only found their audience years later, and a selection of deeper cuts that should get nodding approval from the Mod cognoscenti of either sex.
Extensive sleeve notes, a track-by-track commentary, details of the singer and the song, you know the kind of thing. More background on it here and if you want a copy, you can pre-order that too for £34.99. It lands in February.
