Whilst watching a bit of TV on Saturday, I discovered a programme called Demolition on C4, which selects the 12 worst buildings in the UK (by a public vote apparently), then attempts to have the worst offender pulled down.
Worryingly, one of the lead candidates is Gateshead Car Park – the futuristic concrete structure made famous when Cliff Brumby was thrown off the top in classic Brit flick Get Carter.
Admittedly I am a fan of what is known as "brutalist" architecture (and indeed Get Carter), but to knock down such an iconic building and indeed a uniquely designed building is criminal. Do the decent thing – vote for one of the government offices to get the boot instead!
