Each one hand-numbered, the Skatalite by The Skatalites limited edition coloured vinyl is available to order now.
How limited? Well, the run is limited to 1,000 copies in total, with each one on orange 180g vinyl and with that hand numbering. A lovely thing to have and possibly a future collectable.
But this is also vinyl to play, featuring legends of the ska scene from their classic line-up.
The album is described as ‘a tidy sampler of some of the best sides the group cut for producer Duke Reid’ during the last days of Jamaican R&B and the early ska period. Not a definitive collection – there aww only 12 tracks on here – but some cracking tunes feature on it and if you want to dip your toe into this era of the Jamaican music scene, it might be worth checking out. One for completists too, obviously.
Tracks listed below and if you want a copy, you can pre-order now, with the album available from Amazon and also from Rough Trade. So take your pick. Rough Trade slightly cheaper at £23.99, but you might make it back with postage at Amazon as it’s on Prime.
