You can pre-order now, but 29th June 2015 is the publishing date for the new editions of Skinhead and Suedehead by Richard Allen.
The books are being reissued in paperback and for the first time, you can download the digital edition of the books for the Kindle too. The new editions of the cult classics are courtesy of Dean Street Press and each now comes with an introduction from Andrew Stevens, a long-time Allen devotee.
As for the books, they are typical pulp fiction of the era (published in 1970 and 1971 originally), with both Skinhead and Suedehead focusing on main character Joe Hawkins. Joe is a 16-year-old London skinhead when the books commence, described as the ‘anti-hero’s anti-hero’ and with a life focused on clothes, beer, football and violence. Following on is Suedehead, where Joe jumps into the next youth cult and tries for respectability. But little has really changed.
Not for everyone, that’s for sure. But if you want to read or reread, the books are available to order now. No news on any other books in the series being reissued. Perhaps it is down to the success of these first two. As for prices, the paperback is £8.99 and the Kindle version is £2.84.
