From the man who brought us the documentary comes the Splonge! An Introduction to Tubby Hayes vinyl compilation.

It’s a compilation is the work of filmmaker, author and fan Mark Baxter, and pulled together to address one question – and a question I think I asked when I interviewed Mark about Tubby Hayes some time ago. That question is, ‘Where do I start?’

Because there is plenty of product available to buy from Tubby Hayes, including a vinyl box set from Decca, the label behind this compilation, but everyone needs a starting point – and this is intended to be it.

If you want to take a first step into the British jazzman’s back catalogue, this one brings together ten tracks originally recorded for the Fontana label between 1961 and 1969.

It’s also a lovely thing in its own right. A 140g LP with a printed inner sleeve of the 140g LP containing background and imagery for all the tracks featured, which are listed below.

Of course, the documentary is another thing to check out if you haven’t previously. It’s available to watch on demand at the Mono Media site.

And this LP compilation is available to pre-order now ahead of the 11th April 2024 release date, selling for £29.99.
