Some of this has been out before, although The Pretty Things – Live At The BBC CD and vinyl is a brand new set.

Released by Repertoire Records, this is a choice of a 6 CD or a 3 LP set, although the LP seems tougher to find in the UK just now. Seems to have landed elsewhere for order. Just not in the UK. Sure it will pop up soon.

So let’s start with the CD. The content is pretty obvious – music recorded for the BBC by the band over the years. And there’s a lot of it. 7 hours in total, all restored and remastered by Eroc.

As for the content, that’s vintage recordings from the likes of Saturday Club, Beat Room, Top Gear and Sounds of the 70s, as well as more recent recordings from the Mark Lamarr Show (2009) and Marc Riley (2018) shows.

If you have the older sets you’ll be pleased to know that on top of the remastering (which boosts the quality considerably) there are something like 50 new tracks here, as well as a 50-page booklet with liner notes by Richard Morton Jack featuring archive memorabilia and photos plus a recent interview by Chris Welch with founder member and guitarist Dick Taylor.

The white vinyl set differs slightly and of course, has less music. But it does bring in a themed approach to the music, with each piece of vinyl focusing on an era/sound – R&B, Psych and Hard Rock.

All of it lands on 25th June 2021, with the CD set selling for £52.14. As I said, the vinyl likely to land soon too and likely to be between £30 and £40.
