I could be wrong, but I suspect this is the first of a series of The Who Half Speed Master Vinyl Editions.
That’s really because they have started with My Generation and in all honesty, I can’t see them missing out on doing more remastering work on some of the later back catalogue albums. But I could be wrong.
So for now, let’s talk about what is available, which is a choice of My Generation or A Quick One. And on the face of it, that’s the article. Both have had vinyl reissues without any extra musical content. But it isn’t quite that.
These are both Half Speed Master Vinyl Editions, which in short means better quality. But I’ll give you the long version too.
Reworked at Abbey Road Studios, both have been cut song a specialist technique known as half speed mastering, which is described as an ‘artisan process’ that results in vinyl that has a ‘superior high-frequency response (treble) and very solid and stable stereo images’.
A high quality matter that creates a high quality piece of vinyl. Of course, you would need a decent audio setup to notice the difference, to be honest. But if you have and you haven’t purchased either album on vinyl before, then it might be for you.
Of course, like most vinyl reissues these days, neither come cheap. Both are available to pre-order now ahead of the 6th May release date, selling for £27.99 and £29.99 respectively.
