Demon is back with a Mod-themed collection. This time the There’s No Stopping Us Now: The Female Mods’ Forgotten Story box set.

It’s a 98-track box set over four CDs. I know CDs aren’t as popular as they were – although there is something of a revival going on for physical media – but it’s still a nice thing if you spin the metal discs.

As you might have guessed, it’s a collection loosely inspired by the Ready Steady Girls book, which was published way back in 2016 via Suave Publishing and is now ridiculously hard to find. Yes, it was a limited run and unlikely to reappear again.

That book, subtitled ’the other half of the Mod equation,’ focused on the role of women in the Mod scene, which is often dominated by men, not least when it comes to Mod-based literature.

The box set looks to do the same musically, describing itself as ‘original soul and beat from pioneering female artists’ as well as ‘the cream of the 60’s Mod scene’ over those four discs.

Looking at the tracks, it’s an interesting collection, but one that seems to take in the broader (and sometimes more obvious) 1960s beat and soul sounds rather than focusing purely on a Mod viewpoint. Have a look and see what you think.

There are track-by-track sleeves, too, and packaging that mimics the original book. It’s so nice to have the two together. But you will have to wait a bit. This is on pre-order now but doesn’t land until 7th February 2025. If you want to pre-order, you can do that for £35.99.
