Mod dresses

We’ve been meaning to do a top five mod dressmakers article for some time, indeed it’s hovering around the top of our ‘to do’ list right now. In the meantime, here are a couple of suggestions for you.

If you are in the US (or don’t mind buying overseas), we always recommend Dadadie Brucke. The work of Jessika Madison-Kennedy, the company uses the classic ‘mod’ look and inspiration from some of the higher end vintage dresses to produce something modern, but at the same time very much of the era. You’re unlikely to see the same dress in your town on a night out either. Prices vary from around $139 upwards.

In the UK, Carnaby Streak has been highly recommended. Specialising in 60s-style dresses, Carnaby makes all its items by hand, all in small numbers and all finished using traditional tailoring methods, They quote a turnaround of around 10 days. Prices again vary, but expect to pay from £50.

Don’t discount the high street either. We feature numerous finds on this site and the women’s fashion section of Retro To Go. Keep checking those or have a browse through the archives.
