Charly Records has announced the PP Arnold—The First Lady Of Immediate vinyl reissue. There’s also a CD on its way too.

But the vinyl is likely to be the big pull here. A reproduction of PP Arnold’s 1967 debut album under the careful eye of Charly. We’ve come a long way with the back catalogue of Immediate Records, which for years had to suffer cut-price, poor-quality reissues. Not anymore, thankfully.

This vinyl reissue reproduces the original Immediate sleeve and artwork right down to the reverse board matte laminate finish. The quality promises to be up there, too, with new 96KHZ-24BIT transfers for this version on both the vinyl and disc.

Which is nice, but you’ll need to want to have this in your collection. And you should. A much-underrated album and, like much of the Immediate catalogue, one that never took off commercially due to the label’s distribution problems.

Originally an Ikette, PP Arnold was signed by Andrew Loog Oldham for the fledgling Immediate label and taken under his wing. This album took about a year to record.

The end result was worth it, with heavy input from Loog Oldham himself, Mick Jagger and the Small Faces (If You Think You’re Groovy). Although it’s First Cut Is the Deepest which is the song perhaps best known from these sessions. A classic of its era that still stands up today.

The track listing isn’t down, but I presume that’s untouched from the original, so I’ve listed it below.

Both the vinyl and the CD will be released on 10th May 2024, but you can pre-order now for £27.77 (LP) and £14.99 (CD).
