This has been talked about for years – as far back as 2008 in fact. But it seems that Somethin’ Else: The Story of Blue Note Records and the Birth of Modern Jazz by Ashley Kahn is finally going to be hitting the shelves. Unless I missed a sneak launch in the meantime.
It’s said to be pretty much the definitive record of Blue Note Records. 320 pages, taking in the label from its birth in 1939 through to the present day, not to mention the roster of jazz greats that shaped it.
Jazz scholar Ashley Kahn has gained ‘unprecedented access’ to Blue Note archives, taking in interviews with more than seventy musicians, producers, engineers, and journalists. Add in documents, photographs, and recording details and you’ll have something really special.
As we said, it has been talked about for a release for five years or so, with Amazon.co.uk now offering a firm release date of 30th November 2013. The hardback is available to order now for £17.67.
