If you are a fan of the classic movie, there’s every chance you’ll be a fan of the books. You’ll have a chance to find out soon, as the Get Carter books by Ted Lewis will soon be reissued by Syndicate Books.

Credit to Nick Triplow for letting me know. He has written a highly rated book inspired by that era called Frank’s Wild Years and in discussion on Twitter about that, mentioned that he is writing the autobiography of Carter author Ted Lewis and that the original trilogy of Get Carter (or Jack Carter) books, out of print for years, were soon coming back.

Those books are the original Get Carter, the follow-up Jack Carter’s Law and the third instalment, Jack Carter and the Mafia Pigeon. Of course, the original is where the movie came from, although it does have significant changes. I’ll not spoil the surprise on some, but you might not know that the book is set in Scunthorpe, not Newcastle.

The second novel sees Jack back in London, chasing a man who has enough knowledge to put himself and creme syndicate bosses Gerald and Les Fletcher in prison. Finally, Jack Carter and the Mafia Pigeon, our man heads to Spain to protect an Italian-American mobster, taking a few twists and turns along the way.

All the books are available to pre-order now, with the first instalment landing at the start of September.
