Quite the title. But Wig Out! Freak Out! Freakbeat and Mod Psychedelia Floorfillers 1964-1969 is coming your way on CD and vinyl.

It’s also one to pick up from an independent record shop if you want the limited edition because…that’s the only place to get it. Support the indies and get the limited edition vinyl, which is the Neon Pink Marble and Orange vinyl you see in the photo. Slightly pricier than the other coloured vinyl, but limited to just 500.

Alternatively, get the standard Coke Bottle Green coloured vinyl or the CD. Just as long as you love the freakbeat and slightly psychy sounds of the 1964-1969 period.

Wig Out! Freak Out is a compilation from the Two-Piers, pulling together tracks from the UK and United States Freakbeat and Garage scenes of the time. Yes, there are plenty of big names (and well-known tracks) here, but some lesser-known ones too to balance things out a little. Not that rarity is the name of the game here.

According to Wig Out! compiler Mark McQuillan:

‘The album was inspired by my many happy DJ nights promoting my club night ‘Club Pod’ down in Brighton in the 1990s and my love of all things Sixties Freakbeat. I wanted to put as many great tracks as I could on one compilation to hopefully bring across the feeling sheer joy of spinning these awesome tracks in a club and seeing the place go off. This compilation isn’t supposed to be a rare crate diggers album, but rather a gateway to give listeners a flavour of the scene and allow them to go off and discover new and brilliant hidden gems within the Freakbeat and Mod Psychedelia genre, and if ‘Wig Out! Freak Out!’ does that job done!’

It kicks off with the fuzz guitars of The Sonics ‘Shot Down’, The Standells epic ‘Dirty Water’, and ‘1-2-5’ by The Haunted, and features everyone you would expect really – The Birds, Wimple Witch, The Kinks, Shadows of Knight, The Action, Count Five, The Quik, The Spencer Davis Group, Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger and The Trinity, and many more. As I said, a lot you’ll know, perhaps a few less familiar, but essentially, a soundtrack to a freakbeat night out.

All formats are available from 10th November 2023 and all are available to pre-order now, including the limited edition vinyl release. £35.99 for the limited double vinyl, £33.00 for the other coloured vinyl or £10.99 if you want the CD. Tracks below.
