A treat for the modernists out there who love their jazz – Tubby Hayes – A Man In A Hurry.
An icon of British jazz of the 1950s and ’60s, Tubby Hayes will be the subject of a film / documentary by Mark Baxter and Lee Cogswell, which will be narrated by Martin Freeman and hopefully available to catch in late summer.
For the uninitiated, was something of a jazz prodigy, professional by the age of 15 but dead by the age of 38. This year would have been his 80th birthday.
So the perfect time to look at his life, career and work, with the documentary featuring exclusive interviews with people that knew him, worked with him, musicians influenced by him, people from the music industry and fans.
Think you don’t know him? Well, you might well do without knowing it – as Tubby played some iconic recordings back in the day, including the soundtracks to Alfie’ and The Italian Job. Check out the film and you might want to dog deeper.
